The International Day of the Elderly (October 1) was instituted by the United Nations (UN) and to celebrate the date the Instituto Aço Cearense held actions on 10/02 in Fortaleza, in the Shelter Unit for the Elderly Olavo Bilac and on 04 / 10 in Marabá, at Lar São Vicente de Paulo. The purpose of the visits was to provide a “meeting of generations” between the elderly and some adolescents from social projects supported by the Instituto Aço Cearense.
In Fortaleza, a musical afternoon was held on October 2, at Abrigo Olavo Bilac, with the Musicart group of the Associação Escola de Campeões (AEC), 10 students were also chosen to visit the elderly. AEC students were able to get to know the entire space, interacted and delivered a souvenir to the 75 elderly people residing in the shelter.
“We took the students, who used to behave with behavioral complications, so that they understood the importance of valuing older people and giving more value to life,” commented Luciana Rabelo, IAC Coordinator.
In Marabá, on 4/10, it was the elderly at Lar São Vicente de Paulo who received the visit of 10 FUNCAD students from the Project: “Music that awakens gifts and talents”, who played and sang and also interacted. At the end, cleaning products were donated to the institution’s 29 elderly people.
